Google 10-pack: Registering your law firm’s site on Google Local
I recently came across an article discussing the expansion of the Google 10-pack results. For those of you that aren’t familiar with the Google 10-pack, it is the set of 10 local results that click into Google Maps when a local search is performed. For example, when I do a search for “Chicago divorce lawyer” the following results are displayed:

As you can see, the Google 10-pack shows near the top of the search results.
According to Search Engine Guide, Google will now show these results based upon IP targeting. Another words searches without geo-modifiers (city names, zipcodes, etc) are now bringing up Local 10 Pack result. For instance, when someone searches for “lawyer”, Google will show local 10-pack results as well.
How does this impact you?
What this means is that there will be potentially a 61-fold increase in the amount of times the local results are shown. The point is that if you don’t currently have your law firm’s website listed on Google Maps or Yahoo Local, now is the time to do it.
