Free Attorney Internet Marketing Tips
Great free tips from Larry Bodine and the Total Practice Management Association for lawyers growing their web footprints.
Tip 1: The Most Important Attorney Internet Marketing Directory Of All
Whether it’s through paid search, an organic listing, a news article, or a local business center listing, Google truly is the most important directory of all. However, as more and more lawyers implement these strategies, the competition for attorney internet advertising real estate grows rapidly. That’s why it’s important for lawyers to consider retaining the assistance of attorney web marketing consultants.
Too many lawyers still think that simply putting up a website is enough to get found in Google. This same mistake is being made when it comes to Google’s local business center. Competition in online legal is fierce. Even if you’re a “googley-lawyer” you simply don’t have the time it takes to execute, manage, and maintain a full-spectrum attorney internet marketing campaign.
Tip 2: Peer Reviews, Testimonials, And Yelp
While I don’t have Yelp’s numbers in front of me, my off-the-cuff reaction is that Yelp’s users, for the most part, aren’t yet using to find legal services. Using Yelp to find restaurants and dry cleaners when you’re in a new town is one thing, but searches for lawyers is a different beast. I could be wrong. Still, the more web real estate, the better and getting a Yelp listing couldn’t hurt.
However, be advised that your state bar may have rules regulating peer-to-peer and client testimonials. Check with your state bar before soliciting testimonials of any kind.
The other side of the “Yelp-coin” is getting a bad review. What do you do when someone tarnishes your name, reputation, or firm brand online? Our advice, consult with an online reputation manager about what steps can be taken to protect your name, reputation, and your law firm’s brand.
Tip 3: LinkedIn And Other Social Media
As usual, Larry hits the nail on the head. Success with LinkedIn, and other social media platforms, isn’t about setting up profiles. It’s about activity and interactivity. But there in lies the rub. As a lawyer, you barely have time to stop for lunch, let alone answer LinkedIn and questions, post articles in Facebook, and tweet.
First, don’t get overwhelmed. Even small time investments, as little as 3 hours per week, in social media can go a long way to grow your professional network online. However, to truly maximize the benefits of social media, you really need to consider retaining the assistance of a law firm social media consultant.
Tip 4: The Law Marketing Listserv
While I myself am not a member of the Law Marketing Listserv, I know that the information from the Law Marketing Portal is excellent and I would expect the same from the listserv. However, to my knowledge, membership on the listserv isn’t free.
Do I Need Attorney Internet Marketing Consultants?
While all of these strategies are guaranteed to grow a law firm’s web presence, the issue always comes back to the same thing, time. Just like every other form of marketing and professional networking, online marketing takes time. And, if you’re having success with these strategies (i.e. getting more clients), then time should becoming more and more scarce, which is a good thing.
That is why hiring law firm web consultants makes so much sense. Hiring the right law firm web consultant will maximize the growth of your law firm’s web presence online, and free up your time to get back to doing what you are paid for, being a lawyer.
